As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years. A shunt is not a cure, as many patients endure multiple brain surgeries throughout their lifetime, some more than 100. Imagine life knowing that the next brain surgery lurks around the corner because your shunt could fail at any moment. No one should have to live like this. This is why we walk and also why we need your support.
Zack Seferino Guzman was diagnosed with hydrocephalus during utero at 5 months. When Zack was born, he was required to have brain surgery within 48 hours of birth. Needing a VP Shunt in place, we prayed for the best. After Zack turned 1 years old, we hoped the worse was over. Unfortunately, the hydrocephalus diagnosis at birth would change Zacks life forever. Due to the Hydrocephalus “water of the Brain”, Zack is now also diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, is visually impaired and is G-Tube Fed. We hope for no shut complications in the future and no additional brain surgeries. We encourage anyone who can attend the event, to join us in walking to bring awareness to hydrocephalus. If anyone would like to donate, we appreciate all donations on behalf of Zack. Zack is truly Blessed to have so Many people who Love and Care for him #ZackStrong!
